As many of you have probably heard, I've decided to quit my job to travel the world! This is something that I've dreamt about since I was a child. I never thought that I would choose to leave a steady job in my field in Washington, D.C. to do this at 22, but following my heart led me to this decision, so I am choosing to honor it.
I realize that this is an unconventional decision and one that many people will not understand, but if there is one thing I've learned in my short stint of adulthood- it is that you can't live your life for other people. As children, we are rewarded for following the rules. As adolescents, we are praised for following the status quo. But as adults, where can we draw the line? Will it be after you've secured a job that you aren't passionate about, married someone that is a "safe bet", and given your parents grandchildren? I am choosing to do it now.
Before I have the responsibility of taking care of anyone other than myself, and taking this time to actually take care of myself. I want to travel, learn about different cultures, indulge in local foods from around the world, meet other travelers and swap stories of our adventures, and actually just enjoy being alive. I want to wake up every morning not knowing how my day will pan out, and go to sleep every night feeling fulfilled, happy, and excited for the next. I realize that these goals won't be fulfilled by simply changing my location, but from transforming myself from within- and I intend to work on that process each and every day through practicing meditation and mindfulness. So get ready for a new era, everyone! I can't wait to share my journey with all of you.
